Christchurch Orthodontics Ltd. - Russell Lovatt & Christine Bailey

Our Team

Dr Russell Lovatt, and the Christchurch Orthodontic  team are formerly all part of the Riccarton Orthodontic Practice, which decided to divide up and relocate after the Christchurch earthquakes made their building not up to current code.

Dr Russell Lovatt is proud to have been improving the smiles of Cantabrians for the past 16 years. Our practice, Christchurch Orthodontics is conveniently located on Fendalton Road within easy reach of many schools and transport links into and out of Christchurch.  There is ample free parking on the street front (Fendlaton Road and Makora Street) and also onsite parking.

As a leading Orthodontic Practice in New Zealand our practice vision is to provide excellence in orthodontic treatment and service. We pride ourselves on offering a technologically progressive service to patients of all ages and stages of life, within a family orientated practice..

Dr Lovatt and Dr Bailey are very fortunate to have a team of well trained, compassionate and experienced staff committed to providing the very best in Orthodontic care.   Staying up-to-date with advances in Orthodontic treatment and technology means there is a commitment to continuing educational opportunities for both Orthodontists and staff. Good communication, flexibility and understanding are essential ingredients for successful orthodontic treatment. Christchurch Orthodontics maintains regular communication with patients, parents and referring dentists and is committed to delivering an excellent service.

We are excited to introduce Orthodontist Dr Christine Bailey to our team from May 2015.

Dr Lovatt graduated with a Batchelor of Dentistry from the University of Otago in 1991, and then worked in Private Practice in Australia for five years before completing his Specialist Masters degree in Orthodontics from the University of Western Australia in 1998.

Since this time he has been proudly treating Cantabrians as Co-owner of Riccarton Orthodontic Practice from 1999-2012, before setting up his own tailor-made practice Christchurch Orthodontics in 2012, when the Earthquakes forced the closure of the original practice.  Russell is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association and the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists, where he is a past treasurer and current Chair of the Orthodontic Practice Accreditation Programme.

Born and bred in Christchurch, Dr Bailey graduated in Dentistry from the University of of Otago in 2003.  She furthered her studies at the University of Melbourne, where she obtained her Doctorate in Orthodontics, graduating in 2009.  She returns to Christchurch from working privately at Pure Orthodontics in Melbourne, and publicly at the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital where she has also been teaching Orthodontics to Dental students.

Chrissy is passionate about working with her patients and getting to know them. She gets a great deal of satisfaction reflecting on the patients she has treated and the beautiful outcomes she has helped to achieve. She remembers the difference Orthodontic treatment made to her as a teenager, and enjoys coming to work knowing that she'll have the same positive impact on her patients' smiles.

Chrissy is married to Sonnie, and they have two young children Ben and Anna.  She is a member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists, the Australian Orthodontic Board, the Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and the Edinburgh College of Surgeons, and will be a member of the New Zealand Dental Association and New Zealand Association of Orthodontics when she returns to Christchurch. Chrissy regularly attends seminars and courses to keep up to date with new procedures and advancements in Orthodontics.
